Planes
From 1942 through 1944 the Women Airforce Service Pilots flew every type of aircraft the Army Air Force used during World War II, were stationed at 120 bases across the United States and flew over 60 million miles. In less than one year, the 35 WAFS/WASP stationed at New Castle Army Air Force Base in Delaware had delivered 3,000 planes. During the last six months of 1944, the WASP ferried every P-47 produced by Republic Aviation in Long Island, New York.
This chart contains the name of the plane, AAF numbers, nicknames given to the plane by the authorities or the persons who flew them, information about who built the body and engine of the plane as well as where and why it was used in World War II. The information came from a variety of places including the WASP Collection in the Special Collections at Blagg-Huey Library at Texas Woman’s University and the website DavesWarbirds.
