Honors Community

Our community of students, faculty, and staff is built upon the idea that people learn best within a community. Getting to know others who share your same goals, dreams, and interests is crucial to your success.

Social-cultural events

All honors students are required to participate in the program by attending social and cultural events each semester. These events often support the TWU community and allow students to explore Denton and the greater DFW area.

Service to community

We want to create a culture of giving where students can give their time, talents, and enthusiasm back to their community. We believe this builds self-worth and confidence and encourages students to incorporate civic engagement into their everyday lives at TWU and beyond. Students can earn service credit a number of ways — through committee or officer work in our honors student organizations, serving as a peer mentor, or engaging in community service at over 50 approved service organizations in the DFW area.

Athenian Honor Society

TWU’s honors programs places a unique emphasis on student involvement. Through our official student organization, The Athenian Honor Society. AHS has a board of elected student leaders who represent the honors students, organize activities and events, and help govern the program. Through its committees and officers, AHS ensures that students in honors have direct input into almost all facets of our programming.

AHS program is a safe and inclusive space with its representatives equipped to escort me with warmth and pioneering guidance! AHS also houses an outlet for me to reciprocate the warmth and guidance from my Honors board representatives to my student community by leading and mentoring other students through Honors officer positions and student committees!
