Honors Admissions
Admission to one of the TWU Honors Programs is based on a holistic assessment of the student’s preparation and motivation. We take into account a student’s goals, experiences, and achievements that extend beyond their grade point average.
Based upon student responses and total earned credit hours through AP or Dual Credit work, the Office of Honors Programs will place students into the most appropriate program. Students with advanced credit hours are generally accepted into the Touchstone Honors Program. Traditional first year students with a limited number of credits are placed in the Honors Scholar Program. The program reserves the right to change a student’s program admission at any time prior to matriculation based on credit hours.
How do I apply for Honors?
There are two ways to apply for Honors. You can complete the application, or you can apply through the Distinguished Scholars portal.
Who gets into the Honors Program?
We seek students with a strong academic record and a history of service to their communities, as well as an interest in broadening their perspectives through social-cultural engagement. Generally, most applicants are able to demonstrate ONE of the following:
- graduation in the top 5% of high school class OR
- an unweighted GPA of 3.75 OR
- composite score of 28 or higher on the ACT or 1300 on the SAT (M+V)
How difficult is it to get into Honors?
Admission is competitive, and the process is holistic, meaning we consider the entire individual not just their transcript.
How will I find out if I am accepted?
You will be contacted by the Office of Honors Programs and notified of your acceptance into either the Honors Scholars Program or Touchstone Honors Program.

My time in honors has truly made my college experience full of joy and connection. I love all of the people in honors and all of the opportunities being in this program has provided like going to conferences, being an officer, finding awesome places to volunteer, learning about our local community, and being encouraged by my peers to reach for my dreams and change the world.
