Sarah Tran

Sarah Tran is a Vietnamese-American dance artist, choreographer, performer and educator. Tran holds both bachelor of arts in Dance Studies (2019) and masters of fine arts in Dance (2022) degrees from Texas Woman’s University. During her time at TWU, she studied modern dance technique, choreography, performance and improvisation from professionals Matthew Henley, Jordan Fuchs, Mary Willifordshade and Sarah Gamblin.

In 2020, Tran founded a company called TranScend Motion based in Dallas and is the artistic director of the dance company. TranScend Motion is a creative dance company that converges movement making across various art implements to produce original dance works. The mission of TranScend Motion is to create, share and communicate human conditions and narratives through movement. While earning her degrees, Tran was a hip-hop instructor for TWU Dance Division and TWU Fitness and Recreation center, a modern instructor for the advanced levels at Denton Ballet Academy and a visiting choreographer for high school drill teams in the DFW area.

She was also a performer of Team Athena, a competitive all female hip-hop team based in Dallas. Tran has presented numerous choreographic works and guest taught at multiple academic institutions such as Lamar University, University of Texas at Dallas, University of North Texas and Texas Community College. She is an adjunct faculty at TWU and UNT.

Tran's choreography revolves around honesty, imperfections and resistance against the currents of certain constructed standards in society. Her pedagogy supports the exchange of different bodies, identities and cultures in shaping a community.
