Memunatu Alorwoyie
Memunatu Alorwoyie is an accomplished practitioner of West African dance, performing for 10 years with the Ghana Dance Ensemble, the nation’s most prestigious traditional dance group. After serving as the principal dancer in her final year, she married University of North Texas professor Gideon Alorwoyie and moved to Denton.
Alorwoyie has been the principal dancer of her husband’s Afrikania Cultural Troupe for the past two decades and is the principal dancer of a new West African dance group, TexAfrique.

She has an even deeper grasp of her native Ewe dances, understanding the variation between each region as well as stylized choreography from the national ensemble.
