Ilse Mascorro Mayté

Ilse Mayté is an international and Mexican-American choreographer, dancer and educator raised in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico but currently residing in Denton.

Mayté studied modern, contemporary and ballet in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico for 15 years. She also studied Mexican Ballet Folklorico in Mexico for one year. She holds a BFA in Performance and Choreography from Texas State University and is currently pursuing her MFA in Dance at Texas Woman’s University.

At TWU, she is researching the merging of Mexican Ballet Folklorico with her experience in Contemporary Dance to create a space in dance that inspires others. Most recently, Ilse Mayté had the opportunity to present her research at the 2023 National Women's Studies Association in Baltimore, Maryland as part of a panel.

Ilse Mayté’s choreography has been performed and shown throughout Mexico, Texas and Maryland. She has performed in pieces by international artists such as Ortrun Stanzel, Michael Jahoda, Toni Bravo and Natalia Reza. She has also performed in pieces by national artists like Abdel Salaam, Charmian Wells, Bernard Brown, Christa Oliver, Lynzy Lab and Ana Baer Carrillo.

Ilse performs in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas. She continues to create pieces with socio-political messages that help spark important conversations in her communities and also inspire dancers to create meaningful art.
