Danza Chikawa to perform at TWU

April 12, 2023 – DENTON – Danza Chikawa, a Texas-based group that performs Aztec dances, will perform on the Texas Woman's University campus April 13-14, 2023.

The performances will be in the Dance Building's black box studio, room 208. General admission tickets are $7, and can be purchased online.

Also performing will be the TWU International Dance Company.

Danza Chikawa represents the modern tradition of Aztec dance and explores the cultures, customs and native traditions of the Americas. The group is led by Xochitezca (Alejandra Tapia) and Eheca (Francisco Garcia), and their performances feature colorful Aztec costumes and makeup and traditional music.

The company, whose motto is "education, culture and dance tradition, honoring our elders," performs at schools, museums, libraries, festivals and community events. The theme of the dances is nature and the agricultural cycles, its elements and their connection to modern life.

Danza Chikawa is based in Conroe, Texas.
