Shiru Lin awarded three research grants

Aug. 27, 2025 - DENTON - Shiru Lin, PhD, of Chemistry and Biochemistry has been awarded grants for three research projects, including two with colleagues from TWU’s Nutrition & Food Sciences.

Lin earned a $55,000 grant from the American Chemical Society for her project “Unravelling CO2 Reduction Pathway Selectivity: Computational Insights into Cu, Fe, and Ni-Doped Graphene and Fe, Ni-Doped Alloy Catalysts.” Lin is recruiting students to join the computational chemistry research group to participate in the two-year project. Students from chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering and related fields are encouraged to apply to Lin at sline6@twu.edu.

Lin and Danhui Wang, PhD, and Xiaofen Du, PhD, of Nutrition & Food Sciences have been awarded a grant of $147,527 from Dairy Management, Inc., and the US Department of Agriculture for their project “Rapid characterization of exopolysaccharides (EPS) produced by lactic acid bacteria and correlation to EPS functionality.”

Lin and Du also received a grant of $153,800 from Build Dairy for their project “Enhancing Whey Protein Flavor Quality through the Exploration of Protein Flavor Interactions: Screening via Computational Simulations, Verification with Instrumental Techniques, and Confirmation through Sensory Evaluation.”
