Chemistry earns Dreyfus Lectureship award

Nov.14, 2022 – DENTON – The Texas Woman's University's chemistry and biochemistry division has been awarded the Jean Dreyfus Lectureship for Undergraduate Institutions program for 2022.

The award of $18,500 was recommended by a review panel and approved by the board of directors of the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation. The funds support lectures and summer research of two undergraduate students.

The program's intent is to bring to campus a leading researcher in chemistry who will give two or more lectures, a popular lecture accessible and promoted to the community and a more technical lecture; and to interact with undergraduate students and faculty over the period of the visit.

TWU has proposed to invite a leading female researcher in chemical sciences to visit the Denton campus to empower and inspire the community to see themselves as the next generation of scientists, as well as provide research experience for two undergraduate students.

"This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our program and university to other leaders in chemical sciences and the public," said Nasrin Mirsaleh-Kohan, PhD, TWU associate professor and lead of the division of chemistry and biochemistry.

Assisting on TWU's proposal was Patton Griffith of TWU's Office of University Advancement, which helps faculty seeking private and foundation grants.
