Biography

Adalvan D. Martins is originally from Brazil, where he earned his PhD in Agronomy/Plant Science from the Federal University of Lavras and researched how plants respond to environmental stresses. Driven by curiosity and a passion for learning, he expanded his research from plant stress physiology and plant-microbe interactions into the field of human virology, now focusing on how human cytomegalovirus affects immunocompromised individuals.

At TWU, Martins teaches various biology-related courses and fosters an inclusive, supportive learning environment. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, serves as a reviewer for international journals, and has earned awards for teaching and service, including the College of Arts and Sciences Excellence in Teaching honor.

Outside the classroom, he advises the university’s SACNAS chapter, helping students from diverse backgrounds explore and thrive in STEM.
