Apr. 2, 2025 — DENTON — After exceeding expectations in its first year, Texas Woman's pre-health career fair returns to Hubbard Hall on Apr. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., bringing representatives from a wide range of healthcare post-graduate programs and schools to campus.

More than 90 exhibitors are expected to gather in the southwest ballroom of the Student Union in Hubbard Hall to recruit TWU students.

Student participation in the career fair is free and no registration is needed. A free buffet lunch will be available to students and exhibitors.

A year ago, the pre-health career fair almost filled the massive ballroom, and this year more programs have signed up to attend.

"For students who have an interest in the health professions, this is a great place to come because we have all different kinds of programs," said Ann Davis, PhD, division head for TWU's Undergraduate Studies in Biology, faculty director for Joint Admission Medical Program and lecturer II in the biology division. "A lot of our Texas professional programs are going to be represented," Davis said.

Medical schools from surrounding states and from as far as California and the east coast will be on hand.

"It's not just medical programs," Davis said. "We have dental programs, veterinary schools, PA schools, PT schools, OT master's in public health programs, nursing programs, chiropractic programs, naturopathy school. If you're considering any kind of health professions career, there's somebody there for you to talk to. If you're not sure but you think you might be interested, there's somebody there for you to talk to. A lot of our health professions programs also have affiliated programs, graduate programs in the biomedical sciences, and there will be representatives of some of those programs there as well. So if students are on the fence between healthcare and science research or some other kind of STEM career, this might be a good place to come and get a little bit of information and see if that sways their decision one way or the other."

"And then we've also got a couple of scribing employers that will have tables so students can talk to them about employment opportunities in the clinical setting. The Army's going to be there to talk about their health profession scholarship program which is a fantastic option for students. The military will cover the cost of professional school in exchange for a term of service. So that's a great option for students who are looking to reduce that debt after graduation.

"There will be a really nice diversity of programs for students to visit with."

There will also be more TWU programs participating this year. The TWU Nutrition department is participating, as are some graduate programs from the School of the Sciences.

"The Joint Admission Medical Program will have one of their representatives at the fair,
Davis said. "JAMP is an awesome program. It's specifically for Texas resident pre-medical students, but there's a very small window for eligibility. If students think they might be interested in that program, they should definitely come and talk to the JAMP representative, talk about the eligibility requirements and then, you know, see if they fit those requirements and make plans to apply. Application opens May 1 and closes October 1. Students are only eligible to apply in the fall of their sophomore year. And there's a very strict set of eligibility guidelines on the JAMP website that they have to meet in order to be able to apply. So you need a little bit of advanced planning because you have to apply at the right time and you have to be at the right point in your coursework.

"This is a great opportunity for students to learn a lot in a short amount of time."
