Nov. 13, 2024 – DENTON – TWU's Julie Libersat, associate professor of art, design and technology, will present a performance piece in the AURORA Biennial light festival on Nov. 17 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Dallas City Hall.

The 2024 AURORA Biennial, titled "FuturePresentPast," features video projections, performances and interactive art experiences into an outdoor exhibition.

Libersat's contribution to the exhibition is Safety Moves, an interactive installation and performance that utilizes public safety equipment to underline the precarity of the present moment. Created from crowd control barriers, the maze will be reconfigured by performers throughout the event. Viewers are encouraged to walk through the maze and interact with traffic directions. Using play as a strategy to challenge our traditional encoded behaviors of moving in public spaces, the choreography reflects and disrupts these expectations with movement inspired by navigation and safety personnel. Safety Moves invites viewers to consider safety as an embodied social and cultural experience.
