TWU recommends setting up Google 2-step verification using one of the following options:

  1. Google Prompt
  2. Text (SMS) message
  3. Phone call

While text and phone calls are options, we strongly recommend Google Prompt which is Google's push notification to a mobile device. This is the most secure option.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can enroll today!

When is the deadline to enroll?

It is important to note that you must enroll in Google 2-step verification before October 4, 2023.

Who has to enroll?

On October 4, 2023, two-factor authentication will be required and turned on for all faculty, staff and students that access Google Workspace.

What happens if I don’t enroll by the deadline?

If you are not enrolled by October 4, you will not be able to access your Google Workspace account, nor will you be able to access Canvas, LinkedIn Learning, and many other services that require Google authentication. Will I receive reminders?

What can I expect after I enroll?

Enrolling in Google 2-step verification does turn on 2-step verification for your entire TWU Google account. When you log into Google using your TWU Portal credentials, you will be asked for your second factor. This includes checking GMail, Google Drive or accessing other applications in Google Workspace.

If I already turned on Google 2-step verification, do I have to do it again?

If you have already enrolled in Google 2-step verification with your TWU email account, no further action is required.

Yes, Google 2-step verification protects different applications and systems.

What do I do if I lose my phone?

Report your missing device to the Technology Service Desk at 940-898-3971 as soon as possible. After verifying your identity, they can assist with account access.
