TWU Residence Hall Association receives awards

Dec. 1, 2022 — DENTON — Both TWU students and its Residence Hall Association were recently recognized at the annual conference for the Southwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SWACURH) for work at the university and with the organization.

Several members of TWU’s RHA participated and received recognition for their involvement with the SWACURH Regional Leadership Conference. National Communications Coordinator for RHA Alexa Hoekstra and NCC-In Training Christiane Segovia both received the Golden Duck award for their work with the conference, and RHA President Maya Landgrebe was recognized by the student director of SWACURH with the Silver Duck Pin, given to one student in the region each year to recognize their leadership work.

“The SWACURH conference is the time for RHA to be recognized for all the good they do for our residents and for them to be empowered as leaders,” RHA Adviser Beth Eppinger said. “TWU was represented well in all facets of the conference, and our student leaders had a very enriching experience.”

In addition to individual awards, Texas Woman’s also took home the Program of the Year award for the RHA weeklong program Minerva Madness, held in spring 2022 (and returning in spring 2023) and Community of the Year for Parliament Village.

"Many hours went into creating meaningful work for this conference, and I am so proud of this team for putting forth their all,” Hoekstra said. “It truly is amazing to watch this team flourish after many months of hard work and dedication. We grew as a team, as individuals and within the regional spaces and came out with some great accomplishments."

Held virtually in November, the SWACURH Regional Leadership Conference is an annual event hosted for residence hall student leaders at institutions in Mexico, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Students attend workshops and information sessions, as well as receive recognition for programming and events they host at their respective campuses.
