TWU launches app to help students connect

July 1, 2020 — DENTON — TWU is launching a mobile app for new transfer and first-year students for Fall 2020 designed to help them connect. Nearpeer, available for free on the Android or iOS app store, provides a convenient way for new TWU students to meet other Pioneers who share interests, experiences, hometowns, majors and more.

After new students download the app, they use their TWU email address to create a profile. Then they can join groups and find peers by clicking the "Discover" tab.

"Until Nearpeer, we have not had a platform that allows new students to digitally connect with each other," said Kyle Voyles, executive director for the Center for Student Development at TWU. "The app will help our new transfer and first-year students build relationships in meaningful ways right from the beginning of their TWU experience."

The app is free and allows students to post social media handles in profiles so that connections can continue beyond the app. Profile information is only visible to the TWU community, and how much information students share in their profiles is a matter of personal preference.

Send questions and/or suggestions for groups to the Center for Student Development at twu@nearpeer.net or call them at 940-898-3626.
