TWU coordinates "Walk to the Polls"

UPDATE 10-24-18: Due to rain, the walk scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 24 has been rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.

Oct. 18, 2018 — DENTON — With a renewed emphasis on civic engagement, TWU's Division of Student Life is coordinating "Walk to the Polls" events during early voting on Oct. 24 at 4 p.m., Oct. 27 at 8:30 a.m. and noon and Oct. 29 at 4 p.m.

The walks will begin between ACT and the Student Union and end at the Denton Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney Street, an early voting site that is less than a two mile walk. On Oct. 29, students will also have an opportunity to bike to the polls as well as walk. Bikers should meet on the north side of Fit & Rec for bike pickup. They will travel the same route as the walkers.

The walks are part of the university's larger Pioneers Vote campaign. It emphasizes educating students on the importance and logistics of voter registration, the electoral process and civil discourse regarding different viewpoints on issues during election cycles. The campaign kicked off earlier this fall with activities centered around Constitution Day and National Voter Registration Day.

Additional details about voting in Denton can be found on the Denton County Elections website, including a list of all Denton County early voting locations. The League of Women Voters site provides information regarding polling locations outside of Denton County.
