TWU cancels Boo at the U due to COVID-19

Sept. 29, 2020 — DENTON — Like many things in 2020, TWU’s traditional Boo at the U celebration has been canceled this year. The well-attended TWU and Denton-community event will be replaced by Pioneer Fright Week, featuring a series of events scattered throughout the week for students, employees and alumni. 

According to David Sweeten, director of the Student Union, the decision to cancel Boo at the U was a difficult one. “It’s one of the great event traditions here at TWU, and it always draws a large crowd. However, due to the high number of volunteers required to run the event, we felt the best option this year was to provide alternative types of programs.”

In keeping with social distancing guidelines, Pioneer Fright Week events will encourage safe interactions for TWU students. The events will NOT be open to the greater Denton community this year. Events during the week leading up to Halloween will include the following:

Market Bingo: Spooky Edition

Friday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m.

Capture U @ the SU: Haunted Mansion Photo Booth
Available 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26 until 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30
Student Union at Hubbard Hall, Performance Center

Blacklight Climb at the Rock Wall
Monday, Oct. 26 through Thursday, Oct. 29 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Climb in the glow of blacklights at the Fit & Rec climbing wall during the week of Halloween!
