New Health Science Center Construction, Groundbreaking to Impact Parking

Aug. 30, 2023 — DENTON —As the university begins construction of the long-awaited Health Science Center, changes will impact parking on the east side of campus near Parliament Village and Jones Hall.

Construction fencing will be installed starting on Monday, Sept. 11, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building will be held on Friday, Sept. 15.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, the campus will begin to close the maroon lot, south of the tennis courts and east of Parliament Village. This location is the future site for the new HSC and will not reopen until 2025. Cars must be moved out of that lot as soon as possible and no later than Friday, Sept. 8.

The university will also temporarily close the lot east of Jones Hall (except for the spaces used by the Dental Hygiene Clinic) Sept. 7-15 for the HSC groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 15. The lot will reopen after the ceremony concludes.

Residential students are encouraged to use the north lot located near Pioneer Soccer Park. This lot has ample parking and can easily accommodate those displaced by construction. Students may also upgrade to garage parking passes if desired.

During this time, TWU Police will have an increased presence on the east side of campus. Additionally, Night Owls will resume service on Sept. 5 and will add a golf cart to their rotation to further assist students in navigating to and from on-campus destinations.

The university is committed to maintaining vehicular and pedestrian safety throughout the project, and as construction progresses, additional updates regarding changing traffic patterns, closures and access will be communicated as needed.
