Housing Move-In and Street Closures
Aug. 16, 2018 — DENTON — Residential students will be moving back to campus beginning Wednesday, Aug. 22, and their return will cause some street closures and rerouting.
Volunteers will be assisting residents with move-in and pedestrian traffic is expected to be high. Drivers should expect traffic delays and congestion along Bell Avenue and University Drive near campus Aug. 22-24.
Beginning as early as Monday, Aug. 20 barricades or construction fencing will be placed north of Pioneer Hall in preparation for the new dining hall construction site. Parking in this lot will be extremely limited.
On Tuesday, Aug. 21 USS movers will arrive, and the Guinn/Stark parking lot will be cleared. Barricades will be placed in the north parking lot, and temporary handicap parking will be established in the Pioneer lot for Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday, Aug. 22 Catch-all Orientation check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., and Guinn move-in begins at 7 a.m. Barricades will be placed in front of Guinn and Stark on Chapel Drive, closing access to Chapel Drive through Friday, Aug. 24. Barricades will go up in front of Jones Hall after 5 p.m.
On Thursday, Aug. 23 Stark and Jones check-in begins at 8 a.m. while hotel check-in begins at 1 p.m. Barricades will be removed from Stark and Jones after 7 p.m. Barricades will remain on Chapel Drive.
On Friday, Aug. 24 apartment check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the block party along Chapel Drive begins at 5 p.m.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to avoid areas around the residence halls. Barricades should not be moved and vehicles must not be parked in closed roadways to ensure traffic flow.
