2021 Greek Award Recipients

Apr. 23, 2021 — DENTON — Each year the Order of Omega Honor Society hosts and presents TWU's Greek awards. This year, the virtual recognition was announced on April 15 through the Greek life Instagram account (@twugreeklife)

At TWU, almost 200 students participate in Greek life through 12 active chapters on our campus, including nine sororities and three fraternities that are organized through four councils: Interfraternity Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Panhellenic Association.

Individuals and organizations recognized during this years awards were:

Outstanding Sorority Woman and Fraternity Man of the Year  - These awards recognizes one Sorority woman and one Fraternity Man for their outstanding leadership, service, GPA, and overall contribution to the Greek Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University.

Outstanding President of the Year - This award recognizes one chapter President for their outstanding leadership, service, GPA, and overall contribution to the Greek Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University.

  • Maegan Allen, Alpha Omicron Pi

Outstanding Advisor of the Year - This award recognizes a chapter or faculty/staff advisor who possesses outstanding qualities and contributions to their respective chapter, as well as to the Greek Life Community.

  • Taylor Mendoza, Assistant Director of Leadership and Greek Life - Greek Life Advisor

Highest Fraternity and Soroity Grade Point Average

  • Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
  • Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Best Healthy Choices Program - Program encouraging healthy behaviors and choices executed by chapter.  It needs to be a program that is not a direct initiative of national organization, but rather a program designed by local TWU chapter.

  • Heart Health Awareness Zumba Event, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Best Co-Sponsorship ProgramCo-sponsored program within the TWU Greek Life community.  Both organizations have to submit separate applications in order to be considered.

  • Anti-Blackness in the Latinx Community, A Community Conversation, Multicultural Greek Council
  • Anti-Blackness in the Latinx Community, A Community Conversation, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Best Community Service/Philanthropy Program - Community Service or Philanthropy event/program executed by chapter.

  • Zeta Care Packages, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc

Best Diversity and Inclusion ProgramProgram/Event directly promoting diversity and inclusion efforts within TWU student community or outside of TWU.

  • Culture Talks: Why Voting is Important, Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.

Outstanding New Member - This award recognizes one Sorority woman and one Fraternity Man for their outstanding leadership, service, GPA, and overall contribution to the Greek Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University.

Outstanding Chapter - The results of the Standards Evaluation process gives chapters an opportunity to be eligible for Excellence awards at the annual Greek Life Awards Ceremony. Chapters who receive the three highest overall points in the Standards Evaluation are awarded Outstanding Chapter Awards. The chapter with the highest overall points receives the Chapter of the Year Award. The Standards Evaluation process provides chapters a comprehensive evaluation of the alignment within these areas scholarship, community relations (chapter, TWU, and National), Leadership development, integration of values and purpose in addition to the experiences offered to members, as well as the overall impact the chapter has within the community.
