TWU doctoral student awarded summer fellowship

March 24, 2023 – DENTON – Alexis Grant-Panting, a PhD student in the Texas Woman’s University Sociology division, has been named recipient of the inaugural W.E.B. Dubois Fellowship in Support of Diversity and Inclusion.

The fellowship awards a $5,000 stipend for the summer, and is a joint project of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at Cornell University and The American Association for Public Opinion Research. Grant-Panting will join other Roper Center summer fellows for weekly conversations with leaders in the field of polling research.

The Fellowship program is conducted online.

Grant-Panting teaches courses in social inequality and social theory. She is a graduate student representative for Sociologists for Women in Society, a member of the Association of Black Sociologists and serves on the TWU Graduate Student Council.

Her work with the center will focus on developing introductory-level instructional material in public opinion survey research for use by educators.
