Study to Examine the Impact of a Man., Syst. Module-based Telehealth Curriculum
A Study to Examine the Impact of a Manualized, Systematic Module-based Telehealth Curriculum for Family Cancer Caregivers on Well-Being and Quality of Life
The proposed telehealth-based caregiver support group is an innovative and unique approach to a support group. Currently, there are not any telehealth transplant cancer caregiver support groups that provide systematic focus in the four areas of this curriculum (stress, communication, roles, and routines). While programs exist to allow participation via telephone, videophone, and unstructured online cancer caregiver support programs, none exist that are telehealth-based and that include the areas of this curriculum. Furthermore, if individuals live a great distance from a facility they often cannot find the support they need. They can become so overwhelmed by the adjustment to a cancer diagnosis and caregiving responsibilities of a loved one that they cannot find a way to fit travel away from home in order to participate in a support group. A telehealth-based, structured, and systematic support group program allows the opportunity to remain at home and seek a much-needed supportive environment. Cancer caregivers are also underserved in terms of receiving support or information about how to access support. The proposed telehealth-based support group program seeks to address these issues.
