What is the grade point average (GPA) to apply?

A minimum cumulative GPA and a nursing prerequisite GPA of at least 3.0 on the required non-nursing lower-division courses.

What GPA is considered competitive?

The mean GPA per admission cycle varies slightly, but a 3.7 GPA is considered competitive.

What examinations are required for entry?

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test is required for application with minimum scores of 64 in all sections.

What TEAS scores are considered competitive?

TEAS individual and composite scores per admission cycle vary slightly, but a composite score of 87 or better is considered competitive.

What courses are considered nursing prerequisites?

• Chemistry
• Anatomy and Physiology I and II
• Microbiology
• Lifespan Developmental Psychology
• Introduction to Nutrition
• Introduction to Statistics

Please note: Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and Microbiology require a grade of “C” or better.

What courses have to be completed in order to apply?

All nursing prerequisite courses and at least 21 credit hours of the Texas state core requirements must be complete prior to application deadline.

What are the Texas State core requirements?

These are the required courses.

I already have a bachelor’s degree. Do I need to complete the Texas State core requirements?

Not all, but you will need to complete United States History I and II, United States National Government, and Texas Government if not completed within your previous degree curriculum.

Are there other additional admission requirements?

There are no additional requirements at this time.

What is the program format? How is the program delivered?

Our undergraduate, prelicensure program is delivered in traditional, face-to-face format.

What is the length of the program?

The upper-division portion of the nursing program is 2 years in length.

How do I apply?

First, you must apply to Texas Woman’s University through ApplyTexas.org. Once you are admitted to the university, you must apply for the upper-division nursing program through NursingCAS.org.

When are application deadlines?

February 1 for Fall admissions and August 15 for Spring admissions.

I am an international student. Are there other requirements?

Can I transfer credit from another college or university?

Are nursing courses transferable?

Transfer of credit within the upper-division nursing program is evaluated individually by Undergraduate Program Directors.

Am I required to have professional liability insurance?

Yes, however, once enrolled in a clinical course you will be covered by a blanket policy. You will not need to purchase this on your own accord.

Am I required to have medical/health insurance?

Yes. Students in any clinically based program within the College of Nursing are required to acquire and maintain personal health insurance.

Are immunizations/vaccinations required?

Yes. Undergraduate students are required to comply with the university policy regarding immunizations prior to admission into the program. Information about specific immunizations is available at Student Health Services.

• Additional requirements may exist. In such case, students will be informed of the requirements at or after acceptance to upper-division.
• Students applying to the BSN in Nursing (prelicensure) program do not need to have immunization completed by the application deadline.

Are drug screening and criminal background checks required?

Yes, undergraduate students are required to meet agency requirements for completion of a drug screen and criminal background check prior to entering the clinical settings. Cost for these is the responsibility of the student.

The undergraduate post-licensure RN-BSN program is one year in length. A part-time option is available.
