Sept. 18, 2019 - DENTON - Student enrollment at Texas Woman’s University reached a record 15,846 for fall 2019, a 2% increase over the previous year, according to preliminary figures announced today by the university.

The enrollment increase was paced by growth at the institution’s Denton campus, where the headcount rose to 13,353 from 13,013 a year ago.

Graduate student enrollment rose 2.2% overall while the undergraduate student population grew by 2%. Graduate students at campuses in Denton, Dallas and Houston account for more than one-third of TWU’s enrollment.

The number of first-time-in-college students increased by 4.5% percent from fall 2018 to fall 2019. Those gains were fueled by new students seeking degrees in the arts and sciences, nursing and business. Graduate students at campuses in Denton, Dallas and Houston account for one-third of TWU’s enrollment.

The Hispanic student population grew 5.8%, while the percentage of African-Americans rose 2.1%. Hispanics account for more than 27 percent of all students, and minorities collectively make up more than 56 percent of TWU’s student population. African-Americans account for 17.9% of the student population while Asians make up 10.5% of the enrollment.

Texas Woman’s is a federal Hispanic-Serving Institution, and this year is tied for 7th place on U.S. News & World Report’s list of most diverse universities in America.

“Enrollment management is a team effort and we have increased personalization in our outreach efforts to prospective students and their families by being more visible statewide, ramping up relationship management and messaging, and collaborating closely with our colleagues across campus,” said Randall Langston, TWU’s vice president for enrollment management.

The preliminary enrollment tally was taken on the 12th class day, but still must be certified by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
