Jones awarded third national study abroad award

April 2, 2019—DENTON—For the third time this spring, Texas Woman’s University junior Kayla Jones has been awarded a top national study abroad award – the latest a Taylor Foundation Award from the AIFS Foundation.

The most recent award, for more than $4,600, brings her scholarship total to more than $9,000. The scholarships will be used for Jones’ study abroad experience in London over the summer.

Jones, a TWU Honors Scholar from Greenville, Mississippi majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry, was selected earlier this spring for the prestigious Gilman International Scholarship, a selective grant for U.S. students who need financial assistance for studying abroad. The program is aimed at diversifying the population of students who study abroad and providing opportunities for those students to gain international experiences, which equip them to contribute positively to their communities and careers.

Jones also received a Fund for Education Abroad scholarship, which is a nationally competitive award designed to support students from underrepresented populations participating in study abroad programs. She becomes the first student at Texas Woman’s University ever to receive the award. 

Following graduation, Jones said she plans to enlist in the U.S. Air Force and then to eventually pursue medical school.
