July 17, 2019 - DENTON - Jessica Camp, coordinator of academic transitions of Texas Woman’s University’s Pioneer Center for Student Excellence, is one of only 10 administrators in the nation selected for the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) – The Global Community for Academic Advising’s 2019-2020 Class of Emerging Leaders.

Camp joins academic professionals from major universities across the country who will be inducted in October at NACADA’s annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

In selecting members, the international academic advising association considered an applicant’s individual and institutional diversity, previous involvement with NACADA, leadership goals and letters of recommendation.

In the Emerging Leaders Program, Camp will work with a NACADA mentor for two years to gain the skills, experience and knowledge necessary to serve as a leader in the association.

“It is an honor to be one of 10 emerging leaders selected for this program,” Camp said. “I am excited to have the opportunity to represent TWU and share many of our institution's amazing qualities with academic advising professionals across the globe.”

Camp is an expert on advising first-generation, undecided and underrepresented student populations. She received her master's in Multicultural Women's and Gender Studies at TWU and is currently pursuing her doctorate in the same program.

“This program will expose to me broader and unique perspectives from NACADA’s top academic advising professionals,” Camp said. “I hope to grow professionally and bring back my enhanced professional knowledge back to TWU to help our students and better their academic advising experience.”

TWU’s Pioneer Center for Student Excellence helps students on the university’s three campuses achieve their personal, academic and professional goals. It offers a variety of services, including:

  • Academic advising and coaching
  • Experiential learning opportunities
  • Internship coordination and job shadowing
  • Student retention initiatives
  • Study and writing sessions
  • Thesis and dissertation boot camps
