TWU to host eighth annual Celebration of Science

October 3, 2019 – DENTON— Texas Woman’s University will host its eighth annual Ann Stuart and Ray R. Poliakoff Celebration of Science Friday, October 18, on TWU’s Denton campus.

Featured speakers for the event, which celebrates women in science, are Karen Fleming, Ph.D., professor of biophysics at Johns Hopkins University; Kristine Garza, Ph.D., associate professor of biological sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso; Cecilia Marzabadi, Ph.D., professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Seton Hall University; and TWU alumna Rhiannon Gonzalez, Ph.D., GenTech Diagnostics lab manager and owner/operator of Metis Biomedical LLC.

The daylong event includes a light breakfast and interactive poster session with students; student research talks; a speaker career session; lectures from distinguished guest speakers; and student poster awards. All activities will take place in the Ann Stuart Science Complex.

About the Ann Stuart and Ray R. Poliakoff Celebration of Science Series

Both Ann Stuart, Ph.D., and Ray Poliakoff, wife and husband, were first-generation graduates of public higher education, and both often said it was their education that enabled them to pursue the opportunities that enriched their lives.

They both gave generously to create opportunities for young people to pursue their goals.
