Graduate Assistant

Briley Lashombe, MT-BC, is pursuing her graduate degree in instrumental pedagogy with a clarinet emphasis at Texas Woman’s University (TWU). Lashombe attended Texas Woman’s University for her undergraduate coursework, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Performance and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Therapy with Summa Cum Laude distinction. In 2021, Lashombe was named the Texas Woman’s University Presser Scholar Award for exemplifying high academic and musical accomplishment, leadership, and citizenship. 

Lashombe received an invitation to perform at the International Clarinet Association (ICA) 2022 Conference as a featured soloist in the Rising Artist Pre-Professional Showcase and was a finalist in the ICA 2022 Research Competition with her research, “An Analysis of Adaptive Clarinets for Use in Music Therapy.” In 2024, Lashombe and her clarinet professor, Dr. Danielle Woolery, presented at the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors (NACWPI) Conference in Washington, D.C., on “The Intersection of Applied Instruction and Autistic Culture: Bridging Accessibility and Understanding Between Mixed-Neurotype Lesson Dyads.”

Lashombe is an active board-certified music therapist (#18203) who has worked in private practice in the DFW area. Lashombe’s primary clinical experience includes working with individuals and groups in Disabled communities within residential, educational, and home-health settings. Her practice and lived experience resonates with the Social Identity Approach Model of Disability. Lashombe has presented at various regional and national collegiate conferences on the importance of including Autistic voices in research and educational settings as active stakeholders in collaborative efforts that impact the Autistic community and individual. #nothingaboutuswithoutus∞

Lashombe was invited to present at the 2024 TWU 4th Annual Music Therapy Symposium over Post-Ableism in Music Therapy, where she presented her work entitled “Who do we represent? An Analysis of Public Access Music Therapy Journals for Autistic Clients Through the Integral Thinking Model.” In March 2026, Lashombe presented at the Southwestern Music Therapy Association (SWAMTA) Regional Conference with Shae Arce, MT-BC and Angelica Zavala, MT-BC on their topic entitled “No Place Like Home: Dismantling the Ableism in Music Therapy.” 

Outside of academic work, Lashombe enjoys reading, keeping up with the latest Marvel cinematic universe news, and spending time with her husband and two cats, Apple and Jax.
