Courses and Opportunities
TWU offers IPE experiences through specific courses and learning activities that bring innovative teaching and best clinical practices together in shared learning for our students. Our objectives for IPE courses and opportunities are guided by our mission and values around communication, collaboration and trust. Our students are prepared to work as team members with a wide array of professionals integrating best care for patients and populations.
Opportunities
Stroke Bootcamp – Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing and Speech-Language Pathology students work with patients from the TWU Stroke Center on assessment, intervention, and team meetings. Focus on team communication, professional roles, and shared patient education.
Giving Kids a Smile – This student-organized, student-run dental hygiene and health screening event involves dental hygiene, nursing, and Spanish Medical Interpreter students in providing children from underserved with comprehensive dental hygiene services and general health assessments.
Team Communication – Students from nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and dietetics engage in simulated and video-based team communication exercises.
Simulated Hospital – Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy students assess and treat patients bedside with patient actors. Focus on professional identity, self-efficacy, and team communication.
Catch 1 for Health – TWU Dental Hygiene partner with UNT and TCU health sciences students in health screenings and learning activities for school age children in Fort Worth.
Crisis Management – TWU Nursing partners with Baylor College of Medicine and University of Houston College of Pharmacy on communication and team work strategies through a TeamSTEPPS® approach.
Women’s Health Simulation – Nursing students and students in Spanish language courses work through scenarios as interpreters and medical professionals.

DH 4313 Community Oral Health – Emphasis on the role of the dental hygienist in community oral and interdisciplinary health programs.
