Harlaxton College Visiting Faculty

Harlaxton College is the British campus of the University of Evansville (UE) in Evansville, Indiana. Through a partnership with UE, universities across the United States provide opportunities for students to study and for faculty to teach at Harlaxton College.

TWU has partnered with UE’s Harlaxton College for over 20 years. Faculty in full-time positions at the University of Evansville or at Harlaxton’s U.S. partner colleges and universities are eligible to apply for visiting faculty positions. Positions for three faculty from the University Evansville are reserved each semester. The remaining appointments (generally five or more per semester) are open to partner faculty. Preference is given to faculty whose academic discipline best matches Harlaxton’s needs and the academic level and interests of Harlaxton’s undergraduate students. TWU applicants must have completed 6 years of teaching at TWU and be supported by their academic component leader and dean. Since 2008, we have had 13 faculty teach at Harlaxton College. These visiting faculty appointments provide a unique opportunity for students studying abroad at Harlaxton to form connections with faculty while living and learning abroad.

Qualifications

TWU faculty must:

  • be employed as full-time faculty at TWU
  • have completed 6 years of teaching at TWU prior to departing to teach at Harlaxton College
  • be supported by their academic component leader and the dean of their college

Application process

Each semester, approximately 5 visiting faculty from partner institutions across the U.S. teach at Harlaxton College. TWU is one of Harlaxton’s partner institutions.

TWU faculty who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply. There is a two phase application process. First, you will submit an application to TWU’s International Affairs office. If you are selected as a finalist through the TWU selection process, then you will complete the second phase by submitting an application directly to Harlaxton College. Harlaxton College selects visiting faculty based on whose academic discipline best matches Harlaxton’s needs and the academic level and interests of Harlaxton’s undergraduate students.

Step-by-step:

  1. International Affairs sends out two calls for applications each year:
    1. Fall and Spring: applications open February 1st and close March 15th each year.
    2. Summer: applications open October 1st and close November 15th each year.
      1. There are two summer semesters at Harlaxton College. A two-and-a-half-week session that focuses on STEM and a four-and-a-half-week session that focuses on arts and humanities. Faculty can apply to teach one course either of these terms. You can see the summer 2026 schedule as an example here: Summer Sessions at Harlaxton.
  2. Complete TWU’s internal Harlaxton College Visiting Faculty Application (PDF). This application must be signed by your academic component leader and the dean of your college.
  3. Submit TWU’s internal application and your updated Curriculum Vita to International Affairs (intloffice@twu.edu) by the application deadline.
  4. After the TWU application deadline, Academic Council will review and select TWU faculty finalists who will then submit their applications to Harlaxton College.
  5. Harlaxton will notify faculty if they have been selected.
    1. Fall & Spring assignments are typically announced in July
    2. Summer assignments are typically announced in April
  6. Once notified by Harlaxton College
    1. The Director of Education Abroad will reach out to faculty to discuss recruiting for their course
    2. Faculty should submit a “request for travel” in Concur. International Affairs will provide the account number to be used for the travel expenses.
  7. Approximately 3 months before faculty leave to teach at Harlaxton College, International Affairs will reach out to faculty to finalize details for booking flights and paying the Harlaxton College medical and transportation fees.
