TWU Fashion students bring home awards

April 22, 2025 — DENTON — Four students from TWU’s Division of Fashion Design & Merchandising captured first- or second-place awards from the Fashion Group International of Dallas 57th annual scholarship competition on April 18.

The competition is for fashion design in the categories Black Tie/ Bridal, Cocktail/Party, Daywear/Streetwear, Apparel Sustainability and Denim; and merchandising and store planning in the categories Digital Merchandising and Store Planning, Fashion Portfolio and Digital Sustainability-3D Collection.

Julia Nguyen, a fashion design student, earned first place and a $1,500 scholarship in the Denim fashion design category .

Lissette Salazar, a fashion merchandising student, earned first place and a $1,000 scholarship in the Digital Store Concept Design category for her jewelry store, Catala. 

Giovonna Garza, a dual degree fashion design and fashion merchandising student, earned second place and a $1,000 scholarship in the Black Tie/Bridal fashion design category.

Gladys Salazar, a dual degree fashion design and fashion merchandising student, earned second place and a $500 scholarship in the Digital Store Concept Design category for her women's boutique, Emerson.
