BA in Spanish Translation and Interpreting (Medical)

The BA in Spanish Translation and Interpreting will provide the training, professional certification and experience needed to become a medical interpreter. Double majors of Spanish and pre-health can become certified bilingual medical professionals upon graduation.

What can I do with it?

This major prepares you for a strong job market. Translator and interpreter positions in Texas are projected to grow 29% by 2030, with more than 5,000 already working in hospitals. Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston rank among the top U.S. cities for employment and wages in this field, where salaries average around $55,000.

Pairing this training with a healthcare career makes you even more valuable. Bilingual nurses, physical therapists, dental hygienists and other professionals improve patient outcomes while saving hospitals time and resources. Even fields like healthcare administration gain a competitive edge with this certification and experience.

There are so many exciting pathways to explore—this program helps you find the one that’s right for you.

"With my training and certification in the Spanish program, I was able to become a medical interpreter in a variety of clinics that allow me to advocate for the disadvantaged Spanish speaking community. I learned how to enhance my medical professional language in helping patients towards my goal to medical school while also engaging with my love of the Spanish language."
