Yancey Ulbrich biography
Yancey Ulbrich is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Oral Health at Texas Woman’s University, bringing over 18 years of clinical experience in North Texas. She has a strong record of innovative curriculum development, student mentorship, and clinical instruction.
Yancey holds a Master of Science in Health Studies, with a concentration in Dental Hygiene, and her work emphasizes evidence-based practice and experiential learning in clinical instruction. Her area of expertise is utilizing research to advance dental hygiene education. She serves on key university committees, contributes to interdisciplinary research initiatives, and is actively involved in public oral health outreach, as well as professional development for both students and faculty.

"Local Anesthesia Considerations for Cardiac, Pregnant, and Medically Compromised Patients."
Presentation Objectives
- Participants will gain an understanding of how patient medical histories inform cardiovascular and systemic considerations related to the selection and use of local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors in special populations, including cardiac, pregnant, hypertensive, and medically compromised patients.
- Participants will learn to recognize common complications, such as syncope, hypertensive episodes, and vasovagal responses, that may occur during or after local anesthetic administration in medically complex patients, including appropriate patient positioning, vital-sign monitoring, and emergency-assistance protocols.
- Participants will gain an understanding of pre-treatment assessment discussions, risk–benefit considerations, informed consent processes, and approaches to managing anxiety related to local anesthetic administration in special-needs populations.
