Deborah L. Testerman is an Associate Clinical Professor at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, where she has dedicated her career to dental hygiene education. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene and a Master’s in Health Studies/Education, both from Texas Woman’s University. With more than 30 years of clinical experience and over 25 years as an educator, Deborah has become a respected figure in the North Texas dental hygiene community.

Her areas of expertise include radiology, nutrition, dental materials, and risk assessment. Deborah has contributed to the field through lectures and presentations at both state and national conferences, sharing her knowledge on critical topics such as mental health, clinical dental hygiene education, ergonomics, and radiology techniques and safety.

  1. Analyze the importance of proper operator and patient positioning when taking radiographs with a handheld x-ray unit to ensure accurate images and minimize exposure risks.
  2. Evaluate the safety protocols for taking radiographic images, demonstrating an understanding of how to implement techniques that ensure maximum protection for both the operator and the patient.
  3. Formulate a plan of action for situations where maintaining the safety protection zone is not possible, identifying alternative strategies to mitigate risks and ensure safety compliance.
