Occupational Therapy hosts annual Vanderkooi lectureship event

February 7, 2024 – DENTON – The Texas Woman’s School of Occupational Therapy will hold its 31st annual Vanderkooi Endowed Lectureship event on Friday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. on the Dallas campus. This year’s speaker is Susan Bazyk, PhD, OTR/L, an occupational therapy researcher and practitioner. She is the founder of Every Moment Counts, a multi-pronged mental health initiative.

Her presentation will focus on the application of a public health approach to mental health and occupational therapy’s distinct value in mental health promotion, prevention and intervention in diverse settings. The lecture is open to OT practitioners and TWU OT students.

Bazyk’s career has focused on mental health in young people. She developed Every Moment Counts to help children to feel good emotionally and succeed in every facet of their lives.

Since 2010, Dr. Bazyk has made over 100 presentations and participated in podcasts and webinars. She served as a Fulbright Specialist in New Zealand and Ireland.

About the Lectureship

The Vanderkooi Endowed Lectureship was established in 1994 to honor the first program director of occupational therapy at Texas Woman’s University, Fanny B. Vanderkooi. It celebrates the School of Occupational Therapy’s legacy of commitment to vision, professional values, and leadership development in occupational therapy education, practice and research. The event is typically attended by more than 250 occupational therapy professionals, inclusive of students.
