TWU biology faculty, students give presentations

Aug. 18 – DENTON – Several Texas Woman's University biology faculty and students spent part of their summers giving presentations at conferences around the country.

The presentations:

  • Karen Goodwin and Youlonda FitzGerald, "Human Anatomy and Physiology Society Annual Conference," May 27, in Miami. Goodwin and FitzGerald won a poster competition award for their poster presentation.
  • Akshaya Arva, "Determining the effect of stress on the nuclear protein Liat1," at the 36th Annual Symposium of the Protein Society, July 7-10, in San Francisco. Arva also won a travel grant from the Protein Society so that she could attend the conference.
  • Sushila Pathak, "In vivo model to investigate the role of human cytomegalovirus in breast cancer," American Society for Virology Annual Conference, July 16-20, in Madison, Wis.
  • Kiran Hina Tajuddin, "Characterization of G protein-coupled Receptors Encoded by Rhesus Cytomegalovirus," American Society for Virology Annual Conference, July 16-20, in Madison, Wis.
  • Erica Garcia, "Does Human Cytomegalovirus Promote Treatment Resistance in Breast Cancer?" American Society for Virology Annual Conference, July 16-20, in Madison, Wis.

  • Mafia Mahabub Rumpa and Adina Zidermanis, "Native Pollinator Gardens as Sources for Herbarium Collections," TORCH XIII Annual Conference, August 10, in Fort Worth.
