July 8, 2025 – DENTON – Elizabeth Mungall, PhD and adjunct professor in Texas Woman’s University’s division of Biology, in May attended and addressed a conference of the Sahel & Sahara Interest Group in Tunisia.

Mungall, who has taught courses in animal behavior, ecology and general biology, has been associated with TWU since 1985. She is recognized for 20 years of study of the dama gazelle, which is native to North Africa but also found on Texas ranches, where Mungall has done much of her research.

She has worked with Texas ranchers and overseas conservationists to help the gazelle, which is endangered in its native African habitat. In 2024, Mungall ran a dama gazelle conservation workshop to share study results on dama gazelles.

Mungall is the author of The Dama Gazelles and senior author of Exotics on the Range. She lives on a ranch near Kerrville and is retiring from TWU this year.
