June 29, 2023 – DENTON - Juliet Spencer, PhD and director of the School of the Sciences, and graduate students Erica Garcia and Kiran Tajuddin represented Texas Woman's University at ASV2023, the American Society for Virology’s annual conference in Athens, GA.
More than 1700 virologists from around the world convened on the University of Georgia campus to share the latest developments in virus research.
Garcia, who is supported by the Ted & Nancy Paup Graduate Assistantship, presented her dissertation research on effects of human cytomegalovirus on breast cancer. Tajuddin is supported by the Women in STEM Leadership Program, which is funded by the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership. Her dissertation research on chemokine signaling attracted interest from scientists from Pfizer.
Both students received travel awards from ASV, the Division of Biology, and the McIntire Travel Fund. Sarah McIntire, PhD, served as chair of Biology from 2003-2015 and endowed a fund to support student travel to scientific conferences.
