This course is designed specifically for TWU faculty/staff from all disciplines and levels of technical expertise. Whether you are curious about what AI can do for your research or want to thoughtfully integrate it into your classroom or workflow, this program will provide a practical, foundational understanding.

Now enrolling for the Spring 2026 Basic AI Literacy Course. The course begins Monday February 2, 2026.

What is the format?

The course is built for your demanding schedule. It consists of six self-paced online modules that you can complete at any time during the fall semester. The core curriculum is asynchronous using an interactive OER textbook, with optional, informal  “AI community meetups” for those who wish to connect with colleagues and share ideas.

What will you learn?

  • Core concepts of modern AI and large language models.
  • Practical skills in prompt engineering and effective AI communication.
  • Ethical frameworks for the responsible use of AI in academia.
  • Strategies for redesigning assessments and upholding academic integrity.
  • Methods for integrating AI as a tool to enhance your own productivity.

Optional Research Opportunity

This program includes a voluntary research study to help improve future AI training and AI literacy at TWU. In the sign-up form, you will have the option to indicate if you are open to receiving a formal invitation to participate once the study receives final IRB approval.

Applied AI at TWU- Intermediate/Advanced AI Literacy Course

This intermediate/advanced-level course is designed to build on your existing knowledge and move from a foundational understanding of AI to practical, high-level application in your daily work. Whether you are looking to automate recurring workflows or integrate AI more deeply into your research and teaching, this program adopts a "sandbox mindset" to help you experiment with real-world materials.

Now enrolling for the Spring 2026 Intermediate/Advanced AI Literacy Course. The course begins Monday February 2, 2026.

What is the format?

Developed by Dr. Lee Brown of the MAK College of Business, the course is designed to fit a demanding academic schedule. It consists of six self-paced and asynchronous online modules that you can complete throughout the semester, this time hosted on Canvas. The curriculum is built around structured experimentation using authentic materials from your own work, such as syllabi, grant proposals, and research data.

What will you learn?

  • Advanced Gemini Features: Master the Canvas interface for iterative document creation and utilize "Thinking" models to verify AI reasoning.
  • Custom AI Agents: Design and deploy your own "Gems" to encode your expertise and automate specialized tasks in teaching, research, and service.
  • Workspace Integration: Learn to use AI directly within Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail for data analysis and content generation.
  • Deep Research & Synthesis: Leverage tools like NotebookLM and Deep Research to synthesize information from multiple sources while minimizing hallucination risks.
