Kristina Smith, MFA

Kristina Smith is a multimedia artist and writer based in North Texas, exploring memory, generational trauma and cultural erasure. Their recent work examines late-stage capitalism, queer identity, mental illness and the exploitation of the working class.

Recently, Smith has been working in improvisational performance, sound and magic. They are interested in radical vulnerability, and regularly perform and channel aches of the heart and world with friends, collaborators, and Spiderweb Salon; an arts collective based in Denton. She is interested in using sound and performance as a site of healing; especially folk music, as it serves as both celebration and often a warning.

Smith holds an MFA with distinction, in Studio Art: Photography, from TWU and a BFA in Studio Art: Photography + Spatial Arts, from Youngstown State University, in Youngstown, OH. Smith recently completed residencies at the Cedars Union (Dallas), Pocosin Arts (Columbia, NC), and the Mendocino Art Center (Mendocino, CA).

Smith’s solo and collaborative works are held in numerous academic and private collections, and has exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally; in venues such as Form & Concept Gallery, Rayko Gallery, and the Midwest Center for Photography.
