Cybersecurity New Year's Resolutions
As we welcome the new year, it’s the perfect time to set goals for personal growth and for safeguarding our digital lives, too. Cybersecurity is more than just IT’s responsibility. Everyone at TWU plays an important role in keeping our systems and data secure. Here are a few resolutions to adopt in 2025 to help create a safer, smarter campus and secure your personal digital presence:
- Strengthen Your Password Game
Out with the old (and weak) passwords! Commit to use long, strong, unique passwords for every account.
- Think Before You Click
Cybercriminals are more creative than ever. Make it a habit to hover over links before clicking to verify email senders. Be cautious with unexpected attachments. When in doubt, report suspicious emails to IT Solutions.
- Lock It Down
Whether it’s your laptop, tablet, or office computer, never leave devices unattended. Always lock your screen when stepping away, even for a quick coffee break.
- Keep Software Up to Date
Updates often contain critical security patches, so enable automatic updates and check for them regularly.
- Take Advantage of MFA
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your accounts. Setup is quick, easy, and highly effective against unauthorized access.
- Stay Informed
Cyber threats evolve constantly, but so can your knowledge. Complete your annual information security awareness training and stay updated on the latest threats. You’ll be better equipped to recognize and combat risks.
A Team Effort for a Secure Year
Cybersecurity isn’t just about protecting yourself. It is about safeguarding the entire university community. By adopting these resolutions, you’re contributing to a culture of security and resilience. Let’s make 2025 a year of strong defenses and smart practices!
Happy New Year!
