University to host series of mixers for QEP launch
March 22, 2023 — Denton, Dallas, Houston — Several Texas Woman’s departments across all campuses will host a series of mixers in the coming weeks for faculty, staff and graduate students to discuss the university’s new Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) known as Amplify Your Impact.
While specifics will vary, all mixers will provide food and door prizes, including opportunities to win Beats Studio Buds, Skullcandy earbuds and Podcaster’s Essential kit (Denton). Events are free to attend, but registration is requested (click the links below):
- Dallas - March 27, Noon-1 p.m., Room 3514
- Denton - April 3, 6-8 p.m. at El Matador Restaurant
- Houston - April 4, Noon-1 p.m., 10121
As part of the university’s reaffirmation process, the QEP is a multi-year project representing TWU’s institutional commitment to improving a particular aspect of student learning. Amplify Your Impact will help graduate students focus on public communication skills designed to influence positive change for community wellbeing.
According to QEP co-chair, Michelle Kelly, Ph.D., and director of the Health and Wellbeing Initiative, Amplify Your Impact will enable students to bridge the gap between scholarly inquiry and public communication.
Amplify Your Impact is a great opportunity for graduate students to build their professional skills,” said Kelly. “We hear repeatedly from employers that business leaders often become public speakers and communicators, no matter what industry. We believe that by focusing on those skill sets, we can provide our Pioneers with a competitive edge in the marketplace.”
Public-facing methods of communication include op-eds, podcasts, public lectures, workshops, videos, blogs, essays, and/or policy document development.
Career Connections interim director, Becky Fredrickson, Ed.D., and event co-host, is looking forward to the mixer in Denton. “We want to help make sure students know more about the QEP and understand how this new institutional focus will help them connect theory to practice and how it applies to their future careers.”
