TWU opens Redbud Award Nominations for 2021

Feb. 4, 2021 — DENTON — Each spring TWU’s Center for Student Development recognizes student leaders, student organizations and advisors for outstanding leadership and service to the TWU community during the annual Redbud Awards, and nominations are being accepted now through March 3.

The 2021 awards will recognize exemplary service and performance during the 2020 calendar year. Awards are given in the following categories:

Faculty and Staff

  • Faculty or Staff Advisor of the Year Award
  • Campus Leader with a Heart Award

Individual Student Leader Awards

  • Glenda Brock Simmons Community Service Award
  • Emerging Leader of the Year Award
  • Richard Nicholas Outstanding Student Leader Award
  • Campus Leader with a Heart Award

Student Organization Awards

  • Glenda Brock Simmons Organization Community Service Award
  • Student Organization of the Year Award

According to Taylor Mendoza, assistant director of leadership and Greek life, CSD typically receives approximately 100 total nominations, and last year was comparable, despite the sudden campus closure caused by the pandemic.

“We are hoping for a strong pool of nominees this year as well,” said Mendoza. “And to make things a little easier, we have simplified and shortened the nomination form so it’s faster to complete.”

See the Redbud Awards and Criteria page for more details about each award. The awards program will be held in April as a hybrid event with online and in-person components.
