TWU Earns Carnegie Residential Campus Classification

May 2, 2025 — DENTON — Texas Woman’s University has been officially designated a Carnegie Residential Campus, a prestigious classification that recognizes institutions with a strong commitment to providing a vibrant, on-campus residential experience that supports student engagement, learning and success.

This national recognition by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching affirms TWU’s dedication to creating a holistic student environment that extends learning beyond the classroom. The classification is based on criteria that include residential capacity, co-curricular programming, student retention and the integration of academic and residential life.

“As the nation’s largest university primarily for women, this designation underscores the importance we place on building an inclusive, supportive, and enriching campus life,” said Monica Mendez-Grant, Ed.D., vice president for Student Life. “At Texas Woman’s, we believe that student success is deeply connected to the experience students have outside of the classroom—in their residence halls, in leadership roles, and through community engagement. This recognition reflects our efforts to make TWU a true home for our students.”

Over the past decade, TWU has made significant investments in residential life, student programming and academic support services. The university’s residence halls are designed not only to provide comfortable living accommodations but also to foster connection, leadership development and academic excellence.

TWU joins a select group of institutions nationwide to receive the Carnegie Residential Campus designation, which serves as a mark of distinction for colleges and universities that are intentional in creating living-learning environments where students thrive.
