TWU and Education Reach Offer Free Training for Foster Student Advocates

May 16, 2025 — DENTON — Texas Woman’s University, in partnership with Education Reach and with generous funding from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, is proud to offer two free professional development opportunities this summer to support professionals working with students who have experienced foster care.

This special, one-time funding opportunity makes it possible for educators, foster care liaisons, and student support professionals to participate at no cost in the Fostering Success Coaching Institute (FSCI) and the Reach Summer Institutes. Participants may register for one or both opportunities.

“This is a unique and timely opportunity to deepen professional skills and expand support networks for some of our most resilient, yet vulnerable, students,” said Monica Mendez-Grant, Ed.D., vice president for Student Life at TWU. “We are grateful to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for recognizing the importance of investing in this work and for the partnership of Education Reach.”

Fostering Success Coaching Institute (FSCI)

This 8-week virtual institute begins June 2 and introduces the Seven Core Principles of the Fostering Success Coach Model, equipping participants with foundational coaching skills to support foster care alumni and other system-impacted students.

The live sessions will be scheduled twice weekly with three scheduling options available and flexibility to accommodate summer vacation plans. Valued at $1,200, the institute is fully funded and free to participants this summer. The deadline to apply is May 23, and space is limited.

Reach Summer Institutes – 1-Day Interactive Workshops

The upcoming Summer Institutes for Foster Care Liaisons and Student Support Professionals will offer an interactive, solutions-driven workshop focused on advancing engagement with students who have experienced foster care. Workshops will be held in Austin, July 11; Houston, July 15; and Dallas, July 17.

These one-day format, free workshops are designed specifically for those working to support students with lived experience in the foster care system. The Summer Institutes will bring together professionals across the region to build community, share best practices, and strengthen institutional support systems.

Participants will explore innovative strategies to increase student engagement and retention, learn to apply Liberating Structures, a practical toolkit that fosters inclusive participation and amplifies student voices, and collaborate and network with fellow professionals to share insights, overcome common challenges, and inspire change.
