Residential students return to campus

Aug. 14, 2025 — DENTON — Residential students will be moving to campus beginning Monday, Aug. 18, and their arrival will cause some street closures, congestion and rerouting.

Routes to campus and parking instructions directing students to the periphery of campus have been provided, and check-in has been spread out over three days in an effort to alleviate some congestion.

As in the past, USS Movers will assist with moving students into Guinn, Stark and Parliament Village. Move-in will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18 for Parliament Village, Stark and Guinn. Dates will be based on floor and room letter. Students in Lowry Woods will move in on Aug. 20. Students in the TWU off-campus properties may move in anytime during the week.

Volunteers will be assisting residents with move-in and pedestrian traffic is expected to be high. Drivers should expect traffic delays along Bell Avenue, University Drive, and Oakland.

Beginning Saturday, barricades will begin to be placed around campus to accommodate move-in.

  • Aug.16 - Entrances to the north Guinn parking lot will close.
  • Aug.17-21 - Chapel Drive will be closed to through traffic.
  • Aug.18 - The southwest half of the Lowry Woods parking lot, excluding ADA spaces, will close.
  • Aug.18-19 - Courtesy golf cart shuttles available 8 a.m.-5 p.m. from the Light Blue lot to the Dining Hall and Student Union at Hubbard Hall.
  • Aug.18-22 - In an effort to ease congestion in other areas NO garage permit required to park in the garage.
  • Aug. 20 - Administration Drive from Bell to Parliament Village will be blocked and closed to all eastbound traffic.
  • Aug. 22 - Chapel Drive will be closed for Block Party.
  • Aug. 25-26 - Volunteers will be in select parking lots to assist with parking questions.

“We are excited to welcome students back to campus, and want everyone to be aware that traffic could be impacted,” said Jill Eckardt, executive director of University Housing and Dining.

The highest impact days will be Monday and Tuesday as students move into Parliament Village, Stark, and Guinn.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to avoid areas around the residence halls. Barricades should not be moved and vehicles must not be parked in closed roadways to ensure traffic flow.
