Pioneer Kitchen offers more than just new dining options

November 19, 2019 — Denton — With the opening of the new Dining Hall, Pioneer Kitchen has added more than just a state-of-the-art facility and expanded menu. It has also introduced new options that make it easier than ever for faculty and staff to grab a bite.

While construction crews worked to erect a new building, Pioneer Kitchen staff listened to what was missing in TWU’s dining experience and have worked to develop modern, innovative approaches, some of which are being introduced at TWU for the first time.

FED Program

One such innovation is the new FED program, Pioneer Kitchen’s version of Hello Fresh that began taking orders Nov. 18. The program offers healthy meal kit preparation packages that can be ordered and picked up at the new Dining Hall. FED is open to students, faculty, staff and even community members.

FED meal kits start at $22.99, and the first order includes a reusable bag that can be used for discounts on subsequent orders. Menu options will vary but include chef-inspired options like spiced gumbo and BBQ chicken tacos with lime cilantro slaw. To place the orders and access nutritional information, download the FED app and follow the steps to sign up. In app stores, iPhone users search Fed-Fresh, and Android users search Fed Mealkit.

Pioneer Pastries

In addition to everyday meal prep made easy, Pioneer Pastries offer custom desserts. Orders are being taken now for holiday pies and include favorites like pumpkin and pecan. Order forms are available at the Dining Hall customer service desk. Prices start at $14.99 with payment due when orders are placed. Pies will be available for pick up November 25-26 at the Dining Hall.

Faculty and Staff Meal Plans

Faculty and staff are eligible to purchase any commuter meal plan. However, currently only the Commuter 40+ is eligible for payroll deduction, which can be activated in August or January.

According to Diane Jackson, senior director of dining services, the advantages of using a meal plan include the convenience of carrying only your TWU ID and receiving reduced rates for meals.
