New scholarship initiatives to boost enrollment
November 4, 2022 — Denton — A new scholarship initiative at TWU seeks to award merit scholarships to new students, including first-time in college (FTIC), transfer and graduate students.
Awards are based on prior academic performance and the Texas Woman’s application for admission. Neither a TWU scholarship application nor the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required.
Every student who ranks in the top 50% of her or his high school graduating class and has an adjusted grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher ad is guaranteed to receive an award, provided they complete the application for admission prior to January 31, 2023.
According to Javier Flores, Ed.D., associate vice president for enrollment management, prospective students with records of high academic achievement are notified soon after being admitted to the university.
“Early notification is important to TWU as we compete for high-performing and high-achieving students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels,” said Flores.
As an added bonus, the awards are also renewable with annual award amounts ranging from $2,000 to $6,000.
For first-time in college (FTIC) Texas residents, there are even more benefits. The university’s Boldly Go scholarships can be stacked on top of other merit scholarships and are based not only on merit, but also on need (as determined by the FAFSA) as well as location. Students who live in a Texas community 100 or more miles away from Denton, may be eligible for additional scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $5,000.
