Housing move-in schedule set

August 10, 2022 — Denton — Residential students will be moving to campus beginning Tuesday, August 23, and their arrival will cause some street closures, congestion and rerouting.

Routes to campus and parking instructions directing students to the periphery of campus have been provided, and check-in has been spread out over two days.

As in the past, USS Movers will assist with moving students into Guinn, Stark and Parliament Village. Move-in will begin at 8 a.m. for both Parliament Village and Guinn on August 23. Students in Stark and Lowry Woods will start their move-in process on August 24.

Volunteers will be assisting residents with move-in and pedestrian traffic is expected to be high. Drivers should expect traffic delays along Bell Avenue and University Drive near campus.

Beginning Saturday, barricades will begin to be placed around campus to accommodate move-in, including:

  • Saturday, August 19 - Entrances to the north Guinn parking lots and the entry into the north lot from Bell as well as parking lots at Parliament Village will close.
  • Sunday, August 21 - Chapel Drive will be closed to thru traffic from August 21-24.
  • Monday, August 22 - The southwest half of the Lowry Woods parking lot, excluding ADA spaces, will close.

“We are excited to welcome students back to campus, and want our faculty and staff to be aware that traffic could be impacted,” said Jill Eckardt, executive director of University Housing and Dining.

The highest impact day will be Tuesday as first-year students move into Parliament Village, which is slated to expect more than 825 students. Additionally, TWU’s catch-all orientation begins at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to avoid areas around the residence halls. Barricades should not be moved and vehicles must not be parked in closed roadways to ensure traffic flow.
