Housing and Dining Update, Feb. 19

Feb. 19, 2021 — DENTON —  Message to residential students...

The Department of Housing and Dining at Texas Woman’s University, along with many other areas of campus, are currently working to respond to the various issues that have arisen due to the ongoing severe weather in the Denton area. To assist with these efforts, several updates have been made to Housing & Dining operations that will impact residential students.

Housing

Residence halls and apartments have experienced water damage and are not ready for full occupancy and activity. Some buildings are off-limits until sprinkler systems are fixed and operational.

Priority Room Selection deadlines and events have been delayed until further notice. Please be on the lookout for a newly revised schedule.

Dining

Dining Hall continues to operate under a brunch and dinner schedule (10:30 a.m.-7 p.m.). We do not anticipate retail dining operations to open until later next week.

On Feb. 17, 2021, TWU received notice that Denton was placed on a boil water notice. The notice was issued due to a sudden loss in pressure below acceptable levels. As a result, TWU Dining's water pressure in the Dining Hall kitchen has been impacted. Lack of water pressure diminishes our capability of operating the facility safely. TWU Dining will need to provide To-Go service at the dining hall. We will continue to serve meals made in-house and provide water, fruit, and snacks to the campus at this time.

In an effort to keep our students safe, effective Friday, Friday, Feb. 19 and until the Boil Water Advisory is lifted, TWU Dining will move to serving microwavable replacement meals that students can take back to their rooms and heat. There will be five (5) different meal kits students can select from, which will provide two (2) days of meals.

  • Latin Flavors | Huevos Rancheros, Cuban Black Beans and Rice, Mexican Bean Burrito with Queso, Pollo Tropicale and Rib Beef Patty with Mexican-Style Sauce
  • All American | Sliced Turkey and Gravy, Batter-Dipped Crispy Fish Nuggets, Western- Style Omelet, Three Cheese Macaroni and Cheese and Meatloaf with Apple Brown Gravy Sidewalk Café | Turkey and Cheese Lasagna, Hamburger Patty Au Jus, Sesame Chicken, Grilled Veal Chop with Mustard Sage Sauce and Seafood Gumbo
  • Country Favorites | Oven Baked Chicken, Beef Patty in Rich Brown Gravy, Pork Riblet in BBQ Sauce, Macaroni and Beef Casserole and Sliced Turkey Breast with Country Pepper Gravy
  • Homestyle Comfort | Meatballs and Penne Pasta in Marinara, Breaded Fillet of Fish, Three Bean Chili Con Carne, Grilled Pork Chop with Homestyle Gravy and Chicken Parmesan

All meals include one (1) loaf of bread, five (5) 8 oz milks, two (2) 4 oz orange juices, fruit cups and assorted desserts.

Students will be allowed to take one (1) meal kit per day. The kit will include one (1) breakfast entrée, two (2) lunch entrees and two (2) dinner entrees. Students will also be allowed to select items from the supplement, including: turkey and cheese sandwich, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, ham and cheese sandwich, pasta/composed salads, garden salads, fresh fruit, cookies and breakfast breads.

The Department of Housing and Dining at Texas Woman’s University appreciates your perseverance as we all continue to deal with the unprecedented cold weather. Please reach out to your hall staff if you have any concerns to address while you are staying on campus and remember to be safe. Continue to watch for updates as the situation progresses and thank you again for staying strong while we get through this unexpected situation.

Bottled water is also available for pick up at your community’s front desk while the boil water notice is in effect.

TWU will continue to provide updates as we receive them.
